Reviews
This review is purely for the Oktoberfest they host and not affiliated with a church service. They say suggested donation however they funnel you into two lines saying cash or credit suggested $10 and if you go to swipe your card for a donation, they ask how many people and automatically charge you $10/person. They do not ask how much you would or would not like to donate. When I raised the issue, the staff said they are simply volunteers and it’s not the first time it has been raised. So! If you don’t want to donate, make sure you say no and keep walking. :) would be happy to donate knowingly and willingly based on the amount I choose, not this masked coercive manner.
Also they only carry sam adams beers, no other German beers for Oktoberfest so hope that’s your thing. I’ve been to much better Oktoberfests and don’t get the hype.
Can’t for “mi pinche vida” understand why I was told I couldn’t be in the sacristy at St Al’s!!!! Makes noooo effing sense , given that I’ve been into sacristies of churches that like 1) St Al’s are ROMAN CATHOLIC and 2) Under (same; exaaact)archdiocese of Chicago and not once ( “AS IN NOT AT ALL” ) did I get told to not be in there……. Should I FOR EXAMPLE ( unintentionally, inevitably, awkwardly) expect to in every 5/6 Starbucks NOT have my ID checked whilst paying with a credit/debit card, yet in 1 of every 6 Starbucks get “mandated” to show an ID while paying with a card???? Nooo wayyy Jose!!!!!!!
Got married at this beautiful church and the priest was extremely nice and kind.
But I don’t think it was worth what we paid due to the other staff working with us for those two days.
My photographer asked for an extra 5-10 min for photos since the wedding was running a bit behind and was very rudely told no by the wedding coordinators.
She was told couples were coming in to see the church for their future weddings so we had to leave. You would think that these couples might actually want to see how a wedding looks there but instead we were rushed out. We also spent to much money to be treated the way we were from the coordinators.
Beautiful church - just fyi, there’s no air conditioning, which could make it harder for some people to enjoy Mass on hot days.
Yet another hollowed out church colonized by neo-Marxists pretending to be Catholics, especially the young adults group. Shockingly hard to find anywhere in this city that just wants to guide people to follow Christ’s example, rather than nonstop agitprop about dismantling the cisheteronormative racist capitalist patriarchy
Very welcoming community! Many opportunities for prayer, for the sacraments, for social justice outreach and wonderful parishioners of all ages! Blessed with exceptional priests, deacons, ministers, school & parishioners!
Very beautiful church - one of the best examples that showcase Chicago Architecture. The ceiling and the carvings and color of the cathedral is absolutely stunning to look at and photograph. The patterns on the ceilings and the intricacies of the crisscrossing lines and beams are just amazing to see and photograph.
Really enjoyed being inside the place and taking photos. This was my second time visiting the church - primarily for photography. The first time I went there was a wedding going on and I was standing with the bride and she was just about to enter the church (wedding March). I kinda felt awkward and left with just one or two photos.
Then I came back again to shoot photos in liesure - was really with it.
Beautiful church. Cousin got married here recently and very lovely service.
